Description, habitats, and behaviors
The White-crowned Wheatear is a medium-sized passerine. It measures 17 to 19 cm in length, has a wingspan of 26 to 32 cm, and weighs between 23 and 32 g. It is black and white; the lower belly, rectrices, under-tail coverts, and crown are white. The White-crowned Wheatear is a true bird of mountainous desert areas and stony plains. Its flight is direct and typically "thrush-like." It hunts from a perch. It feeds mainly on insects, but its diet may include plants and small reptiles depending on the local context and resource conditions.
Status in the world and in the region
The White-crowned Wheatear is listed as "Least Concern" (LC) according to the IUCN Red List criteria. It is currently considered relatively abundant in the region, but an increase in drought and desertification would undoubtedly be unfavorable for it.
