This is a granary of the same type as the Ksour. We refer to it as ‘‘klaa’’ (guelaa). The term ‘‘klaa’’, which can be translated as fortress, suggests a military function.

These buildings continue to arouse admiration and curiosity. As structures with specific architecture, they constitute historical testimony to a time when local populations lived on a boundary between man and nature in arid zones, through their residential and defensive functions.

The Kalaa are true defensive sites built on the rocky escarpments of the most inaccessible ridges.

Ksar and klaa follow the same architecture. They consist of a set of «ghorfas» (rooms) spread over one or more floors surrounding an inner courtyard in a geometric shape.
