Description, habitats, and behaviors
Bonelli’s Eagle is a medium-sized species. This bird measures 60 to 70 cm in length, has a wingspan of 150 to 170 cm, and weighs between 1.5 and 2 kg. It shows a strong contrast between its dark wings and the rest of its white body. It is a rupicolous (cliff-dwelling) and thermophilic species that favors rocky and dry environments in semi-arid regions, particularly above and near mountain ranges. Bonelli’s Eagle flies over its territory frequently using the same routes. It hunts while soaring or on the ground from lookout points.
Status in the world and in the region
Bonelli’s Eagle is listed as "Least Concern" (LC) according to the IUCN Red List criteria. Nevertheless, a few rare sightings have been reported in the region, specifically in the mountainous area of Douiret.
